Frequently Asked Questions

What is consignment?
A: Consignment is when an item is given to an agent to sell. You are the consignor and are doing the consigning with the agent, California Kids Consignment. At California Kids Consignment we sell items for individuals, organizations, or other businesses for a percentage of the sales price. Sellers, like you, bring us their items and we organize, advertise, and operate the sales event.

Q: How do I get started?
A: Read the entire website, then click on  Become a Consignor. when you are ready to start selling.

Q: Why should I shop at California Kids Consignment?
A: You'll save a lot of money and there are a lot of items under one roof. No need to go from yard sale to yard sale, haggling, and rummaging through boxes. You'll find everything categorized for easy shopping.

Q: Why should I sell with California Kids Consignment?
You don't have to be present to sell your items. You clean it, tag it, and drop it off. You'll earn more than what most resale shops will offer you. I upload the day's sales each evening, so you can monitor your earnings.

Q: What does the $15.00 Consignment fee cover?
A: The fee goes toward the location rental, advertising, insurance, table rentals, software, etc.

Q: Isn't it a lot of work to prepare items?
A: Yes, but I think it's better than preparing for a yard sale. Cleaning and tagging does take time, that's why I encourage you to start early. Do a little everyday. The better the presentation of the item, the better it will sell. You may also want to take some time to research and determine the right selling price. Your items will sell if it looks great and is priced right.

Q: Wouldn't I make more money holding my own yard sale or listing on Craigslist?
A: Maybe. Do you want to sell your toddler's hardly worn brand name, beautiful, outfit at a yard sale for $1 or $2 at the most, or at my consignment sale for $7 or $8? Most consignors do both yard sales and internet selling, as well as participate in consignment sales. The benefits of being a consignor include: You don't have to haggle price, you get to remain anonymous, you don't have to invite strangers into your home to view your items, and you don't have to advertise or contact buyers. After the consignment event, pick up your items and continue selling online or at your own yard sale. California Kids Consignment simply provides another option for clearing the clutter.

Q: How much money can I make?
A: You will automatically get 65% of the profit from your sale items. You can earn more by volunteering.

Q: What happens to my items that don't sell?
A: After the event, you pick up your unsold items during the specified pick-up times. Any left over items becomes property of California Kids Consignment. We donate the items to local charities and families in need.

Q: What if I want to consign large pieces of furniture, but can't get it to the sale?
A: The best option is to become a sponsor for $10.00 per listing.  You design an 8x10 listing and we place it on our "listings wall" (You must be a registered consignor). We do not take a percentage of the sale. The buyer will contact you and arrange for viewing, purchase, and pick-up.
